This class project was to create a painting of household painting supplies using a printmaking brayer as the brush and only complimentary colors with white. I selected blue and orange. By working with a limited color palette, the experimental painting forced me to really explored the tint, tone, and shade of each color. I started out by doing compositional sketches to figure out the perspective of all the objects in the still-life. We were required to start the painting without drawing, simply start rolling with the brayer. The spontaneous technique helped capture the textural strokes of the house painting process. It was difficult to control the brayer, making the painting much looser. After some time, I discovered I can use the edges of the roller to draw lines and create different thickness in my lines, which helped capture more details.
